Pinguicula primuliflora, commonly known as the Southern Butterwort, is a charming carnivorous plant native to the southeastern United States. This species forms a low, bright-green rosette of soft, slightly sticky leaves that naturally trap and digest small insects—making it both functional and fascinating.
In season, it produces delicate lavender-purple flowers with a sunny yellow throat that rise gracefully above the foliage. One of its most endearing traits? It often reproduces by sending out baby plantlets from the leaf tips, earning it the nickname “the prolifera of pings.” Over time, a single plant can turn into a living little colony.
Why you’ll love it:
- Excellent gnat and fungus-gnat control
- Prolific grower that produces offsets naturally
- Beautiful pastel flowers with a wild, native look
- Beginner-friendly for carnivorous plant lovers
Care basics:
- Light: Bright, indirect light to gentle sun
- Water: Keep consistently moist using distilled, rain, or RO water
- Soil: Carnivorous plant mix (no fertilizers or regular potting soil)
- Dormancy: Does not require a winter dormancy
Perfect for windowsills, terrariums (with airflow), or anyone curious about carnivorous plants, Pinguicula primuliflora is equal parts adorable, educational, and useful.
🌱 Each plant is healthy, actively growing, and sold in a 2” nursery pot.
